How I was inspired to run 100 miles

It still sometimes amazes me that Google knows so much about us. They have ways of showing us timely and useful information when we least expect it. Today in my Google Now cards there was an article that was titled: I went from sedentary academic to 100-mile marathon runner—thanks to the science of self-control.

Over the past couple of months, I have been making quite a few changes to my habits to align my lifestyle more with life expectancy goals. I have been walking and running for a total of 45 minutes four times a week, and that along with drinking close to a gallon of water per day on average has produced great results. My recent hike to Mount San Jacinto with more than 15,000 steps was also a good confidence booster.

I have been feeling that it is time to take it to the next level, and that article popping up in my Google Now feed could only be a synchronicity. So my commitment is to signup for to run and complete a 50 mile run by the end of July 2018.

To that effect, I just signed up for a half-marathon on September 30th, 2017. This one: http://www.active.com/huntington-beach-ca/running/distance-running-races/beach-dash-10k-10mi-half-marathon-2017. I will signup find and sign up for my first marathon by the end of the year.

Let the training begin! 🙂
